Safeguarding

Safeguarding Policy at Carmena Nursery

Ensuring the Well-being of Children in Our Care

At Carmena Nursery, we prioritize the safety and security of every child. We have established specific procedures to be followed when a staff member has concerns about a child’s health, safety, or potential abuse within or outside the nursery. This includes various forms of abuse such as physical, neglect, sexual, or emotional abuse.

Procedure:

  1. Any visible marks or injuries observed when a child arrives at the nursery will be carefully recorded.

  2. These incidents will be documented in the nursery’s “home incident book,” available in all rooms.

  3. We kindly request parents to inform us of any accidents that occur at home and to complete the home incident book.

  4. If there are any doubts or concerns about an injury, we will notify the Local Authority.

  5. Once a concern is reported, the manager or deputy will assess the potential risk to the child and determine the necessary actions, such as immediate referral or monitoring and documentation.

  6. If a staff member or manager/deputy has significant concerns, they will contact the Child Protection Team for further advice and guidance.

Partnership with Parents:

We strongly believe in working collaboratively with parents and caregivers. Therefore, it is our policy to inform you about any concerns, referrals, or advice sought from the Child Protection Team within Social Services.

Good Practice:

  1. Staff members will not be left alone with children for an extended period.

  2. Children will always be supervised by multiple adults.

  3. Staff members who have not undergone police checks and whose CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure forms have not been received will not be left alone with children, nor will they be involved in toilet visits or nappy changes.

  4. All staff will participate in regular Child Protection training, which will be updated every two years to align with our policy.

  5. Our designated Child Protection Officer is Mrs. Herbrina Roberts & Ms Kerisha Brady.
